More than 1,000 people have completed a community survey about proposed changes to the road layout in Castle Douglas.As well as plans to add cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings to the roundabout at the top of King Street, it emerged at a drop-in session involving consultants Stantec that the possibility of adding a cycle lane and one-way system to King Street was also being looked at.
“The vast majority of respondents do not want a one-way system, any loss of parking, dedicated cycle crossings, any additional cycle lane facilities on the roundabout, other than what is currently there. Ms Kirk added: “Ultimately, Castle Douglas is a rural town and should not be considered in the same way as big towns and cities when creating a transport strategy. We have an older than average population, with a wider geographic spread who rely on their vehicles to access local amenities such as our banks and post office.
