More than 300 Irish people have had surgical operations abroad this year

The HSE confirmed that Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Italy and France treated the most Irish patients

A total of 336 Irish people have had surgical operations abroad so far this year, the HSE has revealed.

Each person who had an operation under the scheme was referred to the hospital and medical team abroad by a consultant here.To qualify you must be an Irish resident and entitled to public healthcare in Ireland. A total of €6.1 million had been reimbursed to patients under this scheme in the first six months of this year.

Under the HSE NIPHS scheme, patients can claim back some of the cost of certain healthcare in Northern Ireland.
