Moscow-born Elena Rybakina secures Wimbledon title in comeback against Ons Jabeur Wimbledon
The world No. 12 faced a tough opponent in No. 2 ranked Ons Jabeur on Centre Court. But as the London sun beat down on the pair, Rybakina more than handled the heat.
“The crowd were unbelievable and I want to congratulate Ons, you are an inspiration. It was a joy to play against you.
“First of all I want to congratulate Elena and her team – great job and she deserved this and hopefully next time it will be mine,” the Tunisian star said.AFPHowever, her nationality has become the talking point, given Wimbledon banned athletes of Russian and Belarusian origin following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
But this was something former tennis star John McEnroe couldn’t avoid bringing up ahead of her victory.
