There was a small fire at Daena’s flat in John Barry House in Midleton Cork when Gardai arrived yesterday afternoon, but it is believed the young woman was stabbed before the fire started.
The 27-year-old mother of two who was found dead in her Cork home with suspected stab injuries has been named as Daena Walsh.
The alarm was raised shortly after 4.15pm on Friday when Gardai were informed that there had been an incident at the property. The scene has been preserved pending an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. Gardai are also expected to begin door-to-door enquiries and will check CCTV in the local area.
“Shortly after 4:15 pm, Gardaí and Emergency Services responded to reports of an incident at an apartment off Main Street, Midleton. The woman was found at the scene with serious injuries and received emergency medical treatment but was pronounced deceased short time later.”“The local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.
