Brexit delayed: What just happened tonight and what happens now?

MPs have voted to delay Brexit in the final Act of a history-defining, three-day House of Commons showdown.

And they voted down backbench MPs' plans to seize control of the Brexit process by a whisker of just two votes. What happened tonight? It's official - Britain will ask to delay Brexit Brexit is officially set to be delayed by at least three months after MPs backed Theresa May's motion to postpone the March 29 date.

If she cannot agree a deal by next Wednesday, she will go to meet 27 EU leaders at a summit and Thursday and ask for a longer extension. The ballot paper would ask people to choose between a form of Brexit to be determined by Parliament, and Remain. The amendment tabled by the powerful Remainer coalition of Hilary Benn, Yvette Cooper and Oliver Letwin was defeated 314-312.

We are expecting a THIRD meaningful vote on Theresa May's repeatedly-failed Brexit deal next Tuesday or Wednesday.
