Brock Purdy, formerly of Gilbert's Perry High School and Iowa State, is one win away from a return to the Phoenix area and the Super Bowl.
When Brock Purdy last played a football game at State Farm Stadium, it was the Fiesta Bowl on January 1, 2021, and it was a day to the remember for the former Gilbert Perry High School star quarterback.
It's a story for the ages if it plays out as such: a Mr. Irrelevant who gets his chance to play when the two 49ers quarterbacks ahead of him are lost to injuries and not only plays well, but wins in the postseason and his team is one victory away from the Super Bowl. Former USC and NFL wide receiver and actor Paul Salata was the originator of Mr. Irrelevant. He would invite the player for week's vacation in Newport Beach, California, as a way to honor him.
