'I don’t plan. I finally decided to start using the calendar on my phone recently, purely because Tommy Bowe taught me how to. But no, I’m not a planner. I once left my entire suitcase at home when I was going on holidays once.'

Muireann O’Connell has that magic ability to make everyone feel at ease within moments of meeting them. What you see is what you get with the Limerick native, which is no surprise considering how her approach to interviewing guests on a wide range of topics on Ireland AM has seen her become one of our best loved TV presenters.

Muireann, you said you still feel nervous posing in front of a camera but we had so much fun at our shoot and the pictures look great! You have really found your feet with Ireland AM. Yourself, Tommy and Alan Hughes have a great dynamic. You’re live on air for three hours every morning, do you ever get nervous when the cameras start rolling?

Your former co-host Martin King has joined the weekend Ireland AM team, do you get to see him much at work? You’ve previously spoken about your issues with sleeping at night. Has that improved at all now you work early mornings? Speaking of the housemate, we caught a tiny glimpse of him on social media when you jetted off on holidays last year. Do you think he will ever step into the limelight?Honestly, no. It’s weird because I do think there are some family members looking at the watch and waiting for the wedding. I’d say we will marry, but it will probably be for other people. We love each other a lot and have a great relationship but I just never thought of marriage.

Yes, thankfully. I do think the conversation has changed. People might enquire now but certainly don’t vocalise it as much as they used to. Live and let live. We’re in a world where we’re told it’ll die in a few decades if we don’t do something. I do think about being a mum, I even have an existential crisis over it sometimes. What is the right thing to do? Will I be lonely when I’m older? There are so many things to think about.
