The mum of murdered backpacker Danielle McLaughlin fears she won’t get her late daughter’s possessions returned to her after the murder trial concludes - as she says Indian police destroyed Danielle’s organs against her mother’s wishes.
Local man, Vikat Bhagat, has been charged with the rape and murder of Danielle. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, murder, violent robbery and destruction of evidence. Currently the trial is hearing the statement of the accused under Section 313 which gives the accused the opportunity to provide a statement and explain any circumstances in the evidence against him.
Andrea said the trial, which was supposed to conclude last July but has now been given a deadline of February 2025 “has been a pure disaster.”“The trial has been going on for nearly eight years now and although it picked up with regular court hearings it has slowed down again. It goes between loads of hearings down for a week or two to nothing for a month or more.”
