A British mum has sparked debate online after revealing her unusual tradition of taking down her Christmas decorations at precisely 6pm on Christmas Day.
In Ireland, a popular Christmas tradition is removing festive decorations before Nollaig na mBan, which falls on January 6. However, one mum has a unique tradition of packing away her decorations much earlier - at exactly 6pm on Christmas Day. Georgia Schofield, 27, from Hartlepool in England, goes viral online every year after sharing her decision to take down her tree unusually early. Despite differing opinions, Georgia has a touching reason for her early Christmas clean-up.
Speaking to Mirror UK previously, Georgia explained: 'It's my daughter's birthday on St Stephen's Day, and if it was me, I wouldn't want the tree still up. I try to make it as normal as possible for her special day. I've done it every year so she knows no different, and she's never questioned it. If it weren't for her birthday, I’d leave the decorations up longer.' Georgia, who is mum to Ava and Leo, makes up for the early take-down by preparing for Christmas extra early. She explained: 'I buy and wrap the kids' presents by mid-October, and the tree goes up at the end of November. I like to be organised.' On Christmas Day, after a festive dinner, it's tradition for Georgia - who posts under the username @bruh.georgia - to take down every trace of Christmas by 6pm. She said: 'We open presents in the morning, then head to my mum's for dinner. After the kids are in bed by 5:30pm, I take down the Christmas decorations and replace them with Ava's birthday decorations.' She goes all out with Ava’s birthday celebrations, decorating the table, putting up balloons and preparing presents. Georgia added: 'We usually go to Pizza Hut for lunch and have a party buffet for tea
