A woman has been able to give birth to twins despite suffering from an ectopic pregnancy – which is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes – thanks to IVF.

Helen Corsi-Cadmore and her husband James Cadmore’s journey to becoming parents wasn’t an easy one.

Finally, after another round of IVF, Helen gave birth to identical twin girls, Bella and Sofia, in March 2020. ‘I had some blood tests and then a very stern sonographer, who was very matter of fact, just said: “There’s an egg in the fallopian tube”. Helen recalled: ‘I’d never even heard of an ectopic pregnancy. There’s definitely a huge lack of awareness considering how common they are.

One of the eggs was successfully fertilised as a part of the treatment, but the couple was then devastated by another ectopic pregnancy.
