It’s one of 15 Richard Haas murals in Homewood that are the focus of a walking tour on Sunday.
“This is an important cause for heaven’s sake,” said former Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, the group’s president. “We located somewhere between 850 and 900 Flossmoor residents who served in the military. I’m sure there are more out there and we’re still searching to make sure we include everybody.” Haas, the artist who created the murals, is a world-class painter who was commissioned over the years to paint murals in Homewood. Now 85 and living in New York, he whipped up the Homewood murals sporadically from the 1980s through 2014. He has done work in other communities, but Homewood’s collection of 15 constitutes the most in one village, Condon said.
