Murdered Irish backpacker's mum hits out as accused 'killer' granted bail and fears he'll abscond

The mum of murdered Donegal backpacker Danielle McLaughlin has said she is “pure numb” and “in shock” that her daughter’s murder accused has been granted bail - and fears he will abscond.

Local man, Vikat Bhagat, has been charged with the rape and murder of Danielle. He has been in custody since 2017 and his trial has been ongoing for over four years. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, murder, violent robbery and destruction of evidence. He will attend the cremation under a police escort but because he won a legal challenge last year against wearing handcuffs he will not be handcuffed. As part of his bail conditions he is not allowed outside during the night.
