The Murphys and Bon Jovis, longtime friends and neighbors, are spearheading the effort together.
announced Tuesday they are working with Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorthea, to raise $2 million to help combat hunger among Ukrainians and boost local businesses in the country.
The money will be donated to World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit headed by celebrity chef Jose Andres that provides meals for people in the wake of crises and has been distributing food to displaced Ukrainians. “There’s a lot of areas we could try to venture into,” the first lady said. “But this one — food security — literally impacts the youngest to the oldest. It doesn’t matter who you are. This country has gone from the breadbasket of the world to suddenly being food insecure ... It’s something everybody can understand.”
