In a new culinary-themed podcast, Under the Grill, Coughlan says she can’t understand why the Boomtown Rats frontman and the Dubliner star – who have both called for peace in the Middle East

The 1985 fundraising concert was famously conceived by Geldof after he was moved and angered by images of people starving to death in Ethiopia.

The singer, who has been vocal in her support for Palestine, said: “We all saved the world when Bob and Bono were talking about saving the world, and I couldn’t understand what was different about this situation in Gaza.The Galway performer, 68, said the rock and pop community had pulled together with the campaigning singers for charity events.

Coughlan added: “We were all doing whatever they wanted us to do, ‘let’s do a song for this and let’s do a song for that’.Coughlan is the first guest on the podcast hosted by Kevin Dundon, and journalist and foodie, Caoimhe Young, which sees personalities speaking about dishes from their past. “It’s really hard when you’re a mum because you’re so busy doing everything. They never had sugar and they never had dairy. I was kind of a bit of a lunatic and my mother used to feed them on the sly. That’s her job... a bit of balance. You’d be actually disappointed if she didn’t. The first time Aoife ate potatoes, my mother put gravy on them. She had three bowls of spuds. And I was trying to get some brown rice and carrot puree into it.
