Dear How to Do It: This seemed like the solution to everything.
My partner and I have been discussing opening our relationship of eight years. We were briefly nonmonogomous for a short period early in our relationship, and about a year ago, we started having conversations about exploring this again. While we haven’t pursued anyone in that time, we’ve worked on establishing our boundaries and how to do this in a way that works for us. The conversation is ongoing and the door is open should either one of us begin to develop feelings for someone.
Around the same time these conversations with my partner began, Becca and I met through work and hit it off almost immediately. We have become close and have built a solid friendship outside of our jobs. I really value this friendship, and could see it lasting a long time. Becca and her long-distance partner have also recently decided to explore nonmonogamy. This is new to them both and has been on the table for a while, but they have yet to pursue outside hookups.
