Ross O'Carroll-Kelly opens up about his past misdeeds - cheating at rugby, betraying friends, and screwing deals - and seeks redemption through confession. A candid look at the cost of selfishness and the hope for change.
I have a confession to make - I'm Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, and I've been a bit of a dick to my mates. The other week, I bumped into JP (John Paul) Hennessy in a Foxrock church.
He was all dressed up in his priest gear, which was pretty weird to see. Turns out he left medicine to become a priest. He even officiated at the wedding of Ronan (Ronan Brady) and Claire (Claire O'Reilly).
I went into the confessional with him and unloaded a bunch of stuff - cheating at rugby (yeah, I kicked a ball through the posts and claimed it was a drop-kick), breaking up with my mate's girlfriend (I did the deed with Rebecca Benny, which is why my mate dumped me in college), and screwing over another mate on a property deal (told a buyer the house was haunted to stop him buying it). JP took it all in, looking pretty shocked, but he gave me a sort of blessing anyway.
So, yeah, I'm not proud of it. I'm writing this column to put it out there - I'm sorry to my mates. I'm going to try to be less selfish. Maybe even help out the Leinster Branch with my tag rugby expertise. Anyway, that's my confession. What's yours
