💬 'My parents lost their home to HS2. Now it might have all been for nothing'
“It’s just shocking and sickening to think how much money has been wasted for nothing and for all the suffering of the residents in my ward who have been going through all the noise and air pollution,” Mr Ali toldMr Ali grew up in the estate from the age of seven with his family. After he left home, his parents remained there, until they were forced to relocate due to HS2 in 2014, like “hundreds of others”.
Hundreds of residents in several blocks of the estate – including the Eskdale, Ainsdale and Silverdale blocks – have been relocated due to demolition and in late 2022, the council secured funding for residents of three other blocks nearest to the construction to be moved. Mr Ali said the area around the estate was a noisy construction zone, clogged with lorries which spit pollution into the air.
Mr Ali said many people have put up with the disruption because of the touted benefits of the project, including an improved Euston Station, the development of new businesses and nicer green spaces.
