A 68-year-old New Jersey man was among two drivers killed early Tuesday in a fiery, wrong-way crash on the New York State Thruway in Orange County, authorities said.
George Gonzalez was driving north in the southbound lanes in Tuxedo at around 1 a.m. when his SUV slammed head-on into a car traveling south and burst into flames, according to New York State Police. Gonzalez, of Dumont, and the driver of the other vehicle, Yehuda Weinstock, 67, of Chester, New York, were pronounced dead at the scene.The crash took place between Exit 16 and Exit 15A near milepost 35.7. There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.
