The Clifton actress and singer performed alongside Broadway stars Ben Platt and Leslie Odom Jr.
Sondheim, who was 91 when he died in November, wrote the lyrics to the songs in the 1957 musical at the very start of his long and illustrious career. He was the last living co-creator of “West Side Story” when he lent his presence to Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation in progress.
“When you walk through your entire life with someone’s words in your heart, it is the greatest honor to be able to memorialize them. and on such a big scale, too. my goodness,” Zegler tweeted Friday. “ am so thankful.” Sondheim won eight Grammys among other honors, including an Oscar and seven Tonys plus a lifetime achievement Tony, Pulitzer Prize and Presidential Medal of Freedom.. She is currently filming a live-action version of Disney’s “Snow White,” in which she stars.
