Paterson is looking to fill 135 vacant teaching positions and is offering the bonus for new teachers who stay for two years.
The Paterson school district is taking a different approach to filling 135 vacant teaching positions in the state’s third-largest city.
“We’re offering a $7,500 bonus to all teachers coming on board, for a two-year commitment,” Luis M. Rojas, an assistant superintendent, told the board. Paterson is at least the second large school district in New Jersey to implement bonuses for new teachers in recent weeks. The bonuses are being rolled out in Paterson amid a contentious contract negotiation with the local teachers’ union over salaries and other conditions.
