White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, in Rome as part of a follow-up conversation to President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping's virtual meeting last November

Washington, DC White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Yang Jiechi, in Rome on Monday as part of a follow-up conversation to President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping's virtual meeting last November, according to National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne.

"The two sides will discuss ongoing efforts to manage the competition between our two countries and discuss the impact of Russia's war against Ukraine on regional and global security," Horne said in a statement. But the meeting comes as Russia has continued its violence in Ukraine, striking a large military base Sunday that killed 35 people and hospitalized more than 130.
