Could there be a “real benefit” to mandatory national service for young people? Several countries over Europe mandate some form of service.
Over the weekend, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said if the Conservative Party is re-elected then it will reintroduce national service for all young people.
“I wouldn’t necessarily couch it in the terms the British Prime Minister couched it but I think there would be huge support for a scheme in which young people were asked to contribute two hours a week on a voluntary basis. “Or if you wish to apply for a job in the Civil Service or the wider public service that it would be taken into consideration.”Eddie said a more formal model would benefit those teenagers who already volunteer and would like their efforts to be recognised.
“That when you look at someone’s CV then you’ll go, ‘Oh, he did volunteering, he took time out of his own day.’
