So far they seem mostly positive, with many praising the movie's performances and comparing it to classic serial killer thrillers from the 1990s like"It doesn't exactly reinvent the formula or offer anything particularly fresh, but it's a solid and extremely eerie watch nonetheless, and a throwback to a time when these sorts of thrillers were commonplace and reliable.

""Oh, how we long for an era when we could take films like The Whisper Man for granted, instead of thanking our lucky stars that an above-average serial killer thriller with a respectable cast was made at all.

"When JOE interviewed Hamish Linklater last year about his scene-stealing turn in the second season of Prime Video's adult superhero seriesAt first, Linklater was tight-lipped about the project, telling us:"Yeah, I can tell you that I worked on it with Robert De Niro and Michael Keaton... It was a total thrill, total thrill.

" When we responded by telling him we are big fans of The Whisper Man's director James Ashcroft, Linklater got very excited, calling him"unbelievable". This was before recommending that people check out the filmmaker's earlier 2024 horror, The Rule of Jenny Pen, which is streaming on Shudder.

"He did this movie that is so scary. It's set in a retirement home in , and it stars Geoffrey Rush and John Lithgow.

"It's so gross, and those two guys give the most unbelievable performances, but it's beautifully shot. When JOE said we were hoping for some of that energy in The Whisper Man, Linklater crossed his fingers for good luck.of the same name by Alex North, the movie revolves around Tom Kennedy , a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted.
