Viewers claimed the show's producers portrayed Maxine Carr as a victim in the new drama

Netflix has come under fire by viewers after the release of a crime drama centred around Maxine Carr, known as the former fiancee of murderer Ian Huntley. The true crime drama tells the story of the Soham Murders in 2002, where school caretaker Huntley killed ten-year-old friends Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

She also claimed she didn’t know he killed the girls. She was later arrested and found guilty of perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison, serving just half her sentence and was released in 2004. But now the three-part drama takes a deep dive in Maxine’s relationship with Huntley, as well as why she lied to the police and the eventual fallout. Actress Jemma Carlton and Scott Reid play Carr and Huntley in the show, respectively.

@DCgr09 said: “Not a fan on the new series of #maxine on Netflix.. why is she been portrayed as a victim like to feel sorry for her.”
