The storm unleashed widespread damage, ripping the roofs off homes and pulling down trees in the coastal town of Zierikzee, around 44 miles southwest of Rotterdam, on Monday. Dramatic pictures and footage shared on social media showed a"waterspout" close to the town as the tornado circled the sky, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
A car was pictured surrounded by debris after a tree fell on it following the whirlwind, which sent tiles and furniture flying through the streets.
