Ms Truss said she was honoured to take on the role “at a vital time for our country” in her first speech in Downing Street. She is determined to tackle the issues that have been holding Britain back for years. Ms Truss has succeeded Boris Johnson as British prime minister and becomes the third woman to enter Downing Street following her election as Conservative Party leader yesterday.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin said her appointment is an opportunity to “reset” the post-Brexit relationship between Britain and Ireland.
