What’s scarier than a cemetery? Why, a boat ride down a bayou that flows next to a graveyard and antiquated buildings, says January Leigh, who has found her calling as the tour guide for a new ghost tour on Dickinson Bayou.

“It is a bed-and-breakfast that has four ghosts who haunt that place,” said Treybig, who was approached by “Captain Douglas,” aka “P. Row” Douglas Dunn, to create a Dickinson Bayou ghost tour for him and first mate Larry Slayton to run on weekends.

Treybig said, “Let me come up with a script,” and in short order he went online and found tons of legendary paranormal tales from Dickinson. For tour guide, Treybig tapped Leigh, with whom he was cast opposite in an upcoming water adventure feature film based on “Siren Song” by author George Dismukes.

Leigh, who dressed as a mob moll on the first weekend of the tour, said, “In my younger days, I heard tales of mobsters in the '20s during Prohibition. The bayou and a railroad that moved liquor out of Galveston connected through Dickinson, where there were quite a few distilleries.hiding treasures in the swamps and a 1950s ‘murder house’ and other tales, such as a hobo who people would see on the bayou, but then he would disappear.

“It’s really nice before the sun goes down, but some people like it more at night. There is a spotlight on the boat and a flashlight,” said Treybig.“For some reason, it feels like the coolest. It’s spookier and we give it our all,” she said, adding that mosquito spray is encouraged.
