Not going to be easy
A predicted £13million a year boost to tax revenues from new family houses by 2026/27 is set to help tide East Lancashire’s biggest local authority through tough financial times.
According to a report on the borough’s General Revenue Fund Budget the council tax income for this financial year of 2023/24 would be £64.861million rising to £68.886m in 2024/25, £72.949m in 2025/26 and £77.028m in 2025/26.Cllr Riley said: “I think we are going to have some tough years. It’s the nature of the game.
Cllr Riley said the increase justified the council’s controversial drive to build more larger homes in the borough to replace the mainly terraced houses in its traditional residential areas. His comments followed Conservative group leader Cllr John Slater warning borough finance boss Cllr Vicky McGurk: “There are some tough decisions you are going to have to make, we will keep a close eye on this.
