The cameras have been trialled successfully, catching thousands of drivers in a matter of days, and could now be rolled out nationwide
New speed cameras that detect motorists in both directions could be rolled out nationally after successful trials. The devices snared thousands of drivers just days after their installation for tests in Devon and Cornwall.
Another camera picked up a driver travelling on a 30mph road at 73mph. They could now be used across the country. The new camera catches out drivers on both sides of the road, unlike older cameras that only detect speeding on the left hand side of the road. They have a camera facing in each direction and do not require painted lines on the road. The camera sits on top of a tall yellow pole and does not look like a traditional speed camera.
