They say they have been forced to endure daily screaming and shouts of foul language at all hours since female prisoners were placed in cells just yards from their homes last month.
Neighbours and residents living next to Stirling’s new £85 million ‘superjail’ have claimed it is ruining their lives.
Our sister paper, the Daily Record, has also revealed building works for the new superjail caused disruption resembling an “earthquake” due to massive vibration from earth excavations – with some locals forced to fork out thousands to repair damage caused to their homes. “There has been one woman in recent weeks who has been wailing and screaming in a distressing way and I really don’t think she should be in a jail because there has got to be mental health issues affecting her behaviour.
“It just seems mad that residents can walk down their own streets and actually get involved in interacting with people in prison cells. One mum added: “We lived alongside the old Cornton Vale prison with no problems, nothing, and we were assured life would be much the same when the new prison was built.
The problems have prompted fresh calls for answers from local representatives, with Bridge of Allan-based MSP Alexander Stewart writing to Justice Secretary Angela Constance in an effort to find out what efforts are being made to rectify the situation. Bridge of Allan Green councillor Alasdair Tollemache added: “I was keen to protect residents and not make any comment until I knew this was in the public domain.
