New study will explore the link between paternal obesity and a child’s risk of developing dementia. WorldAlzheimersDay

A study into whether paternal obesity affects children's risk of developing dementia is set to start next month after securing funding from a leading charity.Scientists at Lancaster University will examine differences in brain structure, memory, and cognitive function in young people whose fathers were either overweight or normal weight at the time they were conceived.

With changes in the brain that cause Alzheimer’s beginning up to 20 years before symptoms develop, and up to 40% of all dementia cases being linked to modifiable behaviour, the charity hopes its financial backing will contribute to lessening the burden of dementia for future generations.
