Professor Steve Decent is dedicated to widening access to higher education for people from diverse backgrounds

Glasgow Caledonian University have announced their new Vice-Chancellor and Principal as Professor Steve Decent.

He is dedicated to widening access to higher education for people from diverse backgrounds, having been the first member of his own family to go to university.The former Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Manchester Metropolitan University, Professor Decent brings substantial senior leadership experience and will drive forward the University’s commitment to high quality education and research, ensuring students have the best possible opportunity to secure employment when they graduate.

An applied mathematician, he studied at St Andrews University and was Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Art, Science and Engineering at the University of Dundee. He has also held senior posts at Lancaster and Birmingham universities.Professor Decent is excited about his new role and wants to create an environment for staff and students to thrive.
