New York congressmen file ethics complaint against Rep. George Santos4Congress.

Not only is he at the center of numerous controversies involving his personal life and credentials, but two of his colleagues are filing a complaint against him, asking the House Ethics Committee to investigate claims Santos broke the law.Specifically, Reps. Daniel Goldman and Ritchie Torres accused the freshman lawmaker on Tuesday of leaving out key details in his disclosure forms as well as filing them late. Candidates are required to file their forms by May 15 of an election year.

"The House of Representatives has an obligation to police itself, and this is just the start of our mission to hold George Santos accountable to his constituents and the American people," Goldman, a former federal prosecutor, said in a statement. Santos told the Hill that Goldman and Torres are"free to do whatever they want to do." He added he wasn't concerned about the growing pile of investigations swirling around him.Tuesday's complaint follows one filed Monday by the Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan watchdog group, that asked that the Federal Election Commission"thoroughly investigate what appear to be equally brazen lies about how his campaign raised and spent money.

The allegations include lying about campaign spending, using marked money to cover personal expenses, and hiding the true source of his campaign's funding.Santos, 34, was sworn in early Saturday morning to the House of Representatives under a cloud of suspicion after he was busted by the New York Times in December for embellishing his background and lying about his family, religion, education, work experience, sexuality, and perhaps even an animal rescue charity he allegedly founded.

Asked about the Santos controversy, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise told reporters Wednesday, “This is something that’s being handled internally. Obviously, there were concerns about what we had heard, and so we’re going to have to sit down and talk to him about it.”
