Paul Thomas Anderson's LicoricePizza wins best screenplay at the New York Film Critics Circle.
began announcing its winners on Friday morning — one of the early critics’ groups to weigh in on awards season.
After being named best director by the National Board of Review, Paul Thomas Anderson added a trophy for best screenplay to the list of accolades for “Licorice Pizza.” This is his second screenplay award from NYFCC, winning for his period fashion drama “Phantom Thread” , for which he received a surprise Oscar nom for best director.
The hilarious “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” from director Mike Rianda, and co-director Jeff Rowe nabbed the animated film category. Released on Netflix and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were egregiously snubbed for “The LEGO Movie” but received redemption by winning for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” , look to have another strong shot at goal again.
