At least 10 people were injured when a gunman in a construction vest donned a gas mask, set off two smoke canisters, and shot at fellow passengers at 36th Street station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park area. A further 13 people were injured in the aftermath - either through smoke inhalation or in the rush to escape, New York's police commissioner Keechant Sewell said, adding that all of those injured are expected to recover.
Ms Sewell said the man had fired a handgun 33 times, adding that a 9mm semiautomatic weapon, hatchet, a liquid thought to be gasoline, and fireworks were found after the attack. Police have also found a U-haul van in Brooklyn believed to be connected to the attacker, who"boarded the train and was intent on violence".The person of interest is Frank R James, 62, who has addresses in Philadelphia and Wisconsin, and was wearing a neon vest and grey sweatshirt.
