NGO asks for independent inquiry into alleged monkey killings FMTNews

Animal rights groups and residents are calling for an independent investigation into the Perhilitan operation on monkeys near the SunwayMas apartments in Batu Caves.

Rajesh Nagarajan, founder of Lawyers for Animal Rights , said the monkeys were long-tailed macaques, protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and killing them was illegal, regardless of whether Perhilitan was following its SOPs. Rajesh’s comments come after Selangor Perhilitan said that a recent operation to “control the population” of “aggressive” monkeys in Batu Caves, had followed set SOPs.Perhilitan said it had evaluated the location, type of disturbance caused by the animals and the seriousness of complaints from residents before carrying out the operation.
