Unions are fighting for their members in disputes over wages and working conditions amid the cost of living crisis, with pay offers still below inflation, which remains over 10 per cent. The RCN had initially called for a pay rise of 5 per cent above retail inflation, which has been as high as 19.2 per cent during the dispute, but have said they will be prepared to end industrial action with an offer of around 10 per cent.
The RCN said the Prime Minister must now urgently negotiate with nurses in England after the Welsh government joined Scotland in formally reopening the NHS pay award for the current financial year.
