The number of males dying from drug-related causes in the Northern Ireland has almost doubled over the past ten years, according to figures released by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.
The figures show that 136 people died from drug-related causes in 2017, with 101 of the total being male, which is an increase of 98% since 2007. The majority of the deaths were the result of the misuse of prescription medicines mixed with alcohol and illicit drugs. Of those gangs, around 20% have cross border links including connections to the Kinahan and Hutch drug gangs.
