'It will just give Ruby that bit more independence plus it's going to keep her at home longer.'
A Carrickfergus mum says she wants to do everything she can to keep her disabled daughter at home for as long as possible, after she was diagnosed with a rare condition.
"In her bedroom at the minute, it's a wee box room and she has a specialist bed and it takes up the majority of the room, so she can't play in her room like an ordinary child.Ruby's family are hoping to build a downstairs bedroom and wet room for her, which will help practically and give her some more independence in the house.
"Essentially she will end up in care but we're hoping that won't be until she's an adult, because we want to keep her at home as long as possible and look after her ourselves.""For her bedroom and wet room, it's costing just over £61,000 and the grant that the Housing Executive is giving us is just over £30,000," said Caroline.
