This grotesque comedy-horror about Dracula’s madman aide turns the vampire into the world’s most toxic bossRenfield – the obsessively devoted madman who does Count Dracula’s bidding – has often been seen in film adaptations of Bram Stoker’s book. But rarely has he had a story dedicated to him. This is the institutionalised weirdo who crushes and eats small animals for strength, luring innocent prey to his master so they can have the blood sucked from their prone corpses.
, but when he meets an outspoken traffic cop he falls hard, and decides to take a stand against his own tormentor and the underworld mob dirtbags with whom she’s locked in battle. It’s a fun concept, but here, the plot becomes unnecessarily sprawling, suddenly bogged down and confused byThe OTT, imaginatively disgusting action sequences are ridiculous – this is a film made for a cinema packed with Cage fans – and with a story devised byRenfieldis less than the sum of its parts.
