A former night porter at the Fitzsimons Hotel in Dublin is alleging disability discrimination against his former employer. Jorge Joaquin Sanz Lopez claims he was subjected to unfair treatment and denied reasonable accommodations due to a leg injury.
A man who worked as a night porter at the Fitzsimons Hotel in Temple Bar is pursuing a claim for discrimination on grounds of disability against his former employer.
He told the hearing that these “internal issues” had led to a situation whereby management had taken “revenge” by assigning duties that they knew he could not perform due to his disability.READ MORE: Study finds 18% increase in 'apparently drunk' patients attending emergency department of Cork hospital
However, a representative for the company argued that all staff had received a short-time service letter in January 2024, explaining that their hours were being reduced due to a downturn in business. Mr Lopez, who required an interpreter at the hearing, claimed that he had left these questions blank because he did not understand them.
Ms Urbon told the hearing that no evidence that Mr Lopez needed reasonable accommodation in respect of a disability had been presented, even after it was requested.
