Nine people have been killed and two have been injured following a head-on-collision on the West Texas Highway in the US.
reports, a 13-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a car and driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit a van which was carrying students from the University of Southwest.
The students have been named as Mauricio Sanchez, 19, Travis Garcia, 19, Jackson Zinn, 22, Karisa Raines, 21, Laci Stone, 18, and Tiago Sousa, 18. Their coach has been named as 26-year-old Tyler James. The University’s Provost, Ryan Tipton, described their condition as “stable”, and said that they are making progress.Bruce Landsberg, a transport spokesperson, described the incident as “clearly a high speed collision”. It’s understood that the van carrying the students exploded into a ball of flames after the collision.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the University of Southwest said that their community is “shocked and saddened today as we mourn the loss of members of our university family”.
