The Hoops skipper has called time on his Scotland career with his full focus now on his club career
It didn’t seem right to the Celtic defender that his captain was now in his 30s. Watching him every day in training at Lennoxtown, then playing alongside McGregor in games, led Scales to think he was younger. That’s why the idea of the Hoops skipper being even fresher and fitter this season after calling time on his international career excites the Irishman.
“He’s been so successful in his time as a Celtic player – and as captain. You can see, even from the outside, how big a player he is for us. He’s brilliant for the dressing-room because he leads by example. He goes about his work in the same way every day – and he’s modest. Callum is just a prime example of a proper pro. He puts the work in without making a fuss.
“It would be unusual to think about Celtic without thinking about Callum. That’s credit to him and how he’s gone about his work over the last 10 years.” “He’s 31 but the way he plays, how available he is and how he gets about the pitch – you forget he’s in his 30s now. I just can’t see him slowing down anytime soon. The way he goes about his business, it doesn’t look like he’ll do that.
