Members of the National Children's Hospital's Development Board and officials from the Health Service Executive and the Department of Health are due to appear before the Dáil's Public Accounts Committee this morning.
Two months later, in January, PwC was commissioned by the Government to carry out a review into the cost escalation, for a fee of €500,000. "Their expertise in large scale healthcare construction projects was highly relevant in both instances," it said. When the hospital's development board advised in November that the costs had escalated by €450 million, the Department of Health asked the HSE to urgently review three options which included retendering the project or proceeding with the same contractors.
