Polling has found nearly half of Blue Wall voters could vote tactically - and websites are making the strategy easier 🔎 Big Read by ChaplainChloe and eleanormia
“By-elections offer perfect conditions for tactical voting because they tend to offer an outlet of negative sentiment directed towards the government – which can be harnessed by whichever party appears best set to win – and often attract a lot of activist activity, allowing information to be effectively distributed on how to coordinate votes tactically,” he said.
Citing recent elections which saw the party leapfrog Labour to win, he said: “In both Tiverton and Honiton and North Shropshire, the Lib Dems managed to win from third place and against a Conservative Party that secured more than 60 per cent of the vote in 2019. The scale of anger towards the government and the efficiency of Lib Dem activists in many rural areas means a Lib Dem gain is well within the realms of the possible.
“In 2019, there was all this bogus bollocks about how the Lib Dems were going to surge through and all of this shoddy polling work for the continuity Remain campaigns, in an attempt to suggest the Lib Dems were going to sweep a whole load of seats,” he said. Despite this argument, the tactical voting movement has picked up some high profile supporters. Not least, former Countdown host Carol Vordeman who has been outspoken on the issue in recent weeks.
