Noah Centineo is an amateur James Bond in the first trailer for Netflix's new action show The Recruit.
The official trailer for The Recruit shows teen movie star Noah Centineo in a whole new light. The actor, who first rose to prominence with teen roles in projects like The Fosters and Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy, has been pivoting to more action-packed adult roles, beginning with last month's Black Adam, in which he played the Justice Society hero Atom Smasher. He will continue this trajectory in The Recruit, a spy series that drops on Netflix on December 16.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Today, Netflix shared the first official trailer for The Recruit. It introduces Centineo's character Owen Hendricks, a bumbling newbie tackling his second day on the job. As a new lawyer for the CIA, he is saddled with the task of going through all the letters the organization has received from people threatening to reveal classified information.
Likewise, the trailer teases a more adult and erotic romance than he has previously been a part of on-screen. However, while Owen may look and act like 007 in these sequences, the trailer undercuts that with a joke as well, having him drink a White Claw instead of James Bond's traditional martini. In addition to showing Centineo's character in action after previously only revealing still images from the series, the trailer also offers a closer look at the rest of the cast.
Unfortunately for Centineo's transition to more adult roles, Black Adam's box office failed to live up to expectations despite a terrific opening weekend. It remains to be seen how well his new show performs on Netflix, but its blend of action and comedy is reminiscent of previous successful projects on the platform, including their 2021 megahit Red Notice. So far, The Recruit indeed looks like it has the potential to live up to the legacy of both its creator and its lead director .
