North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile into the sea on Tuesday, according to the South Korean and Japanese militaries, signaling a continuation of its recent weapon tests which comes just hours after a U.S. official called for efforts to restart dialog with Pyongyang.... [+]The launch of the ballistic missile took place near the city of Sinpo—where North Korea docks its submarines—the South Korean military said without offering details about the type or range of the ballistic missile.

Despite this, the site of the missile launch has led South Korean officials to believe that the missile being tested was a submarine-launched variant, South Korean newspaperThe Japanese coast guard issued a maritime safety warning to nearby ships but did not immediately know where the projectile landed.

North Korea’s latest test comes just hours after the White House’s special envoy for North Korea, Sung Kimthat the U.S. continues to reach out to Pyongyang to restart dialog and it harbors no hostile intent towards North Korea. The U.S. will, however, continue to implement the U.N. Security Council’s resolutions with resolutions, which bans North Korean ballistic missile tests, Sung Kim added.by North Korea last month, Tuesday’s launch is banned under a series of resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council . Ballistic missiles are generally considered a larger threat than other types of missiles as they can be significantly larger, carry bigger warheads over longer ranges.
