He was eventually found by police hiding underneath a parked car

A Northampton man who led cops on a high-speed car chase in 30mph areas has avoided prison. Valdi Isankovs, 22, of Merthyr Road, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Monday and was sentenced to 10 months in custody, but suspended for two years.

"Police saw the defendant's car had been involved in a collision between a parked car and some railings. It was by that time stationary and the defendant was not seated in the driver's seat as he had attempted to run away." The court heard Ivankovs, who is a Latvian national, has six previous convictions for a total of 21 offences - including drugs and driving offences.

"His entire family now live in Northamptonshire including his mother, stepfather and two brothers. He has now spent three-and-a-half months in custody."
