Zac Forskitt sadly passed away in 2016
A mother from Northampton lost her 20-year-old son to two different types of cancer. She's now joined others to call on the government to provide funding for a cancer centre to be built at Northampton General Hospital, to allow families to access support whilst loved ones are suffering with the disease.
A huge support to both Zac and his family throughout those six months was Maggie’s. Formed in 1996, Maggie's provides free cancer support and information in centres at 26 hospitals across the UK, including the one Zac stayed in in Nottingham. "If we had a Maggie’s closer to home, I’m sure we had gone there just to talk or shared Zac’s diagnosis and treatment."
Helen is now one of many in Northampton calling for a Maggie's to be created at Northampton General Hospital, to support similar people living with cancer and their families. Currently, the nearest Maggie’s to Northampton is in Oxford, which often proves too far for many to make a day trip for cancer support.
Elizabeth Summers, Cancer Lead Nurse at Northampton General Hospital, said: “In Northampton we want to provide the best possible care for those living with cancer. The development of a Maggie’s centre will enhance that care by providing a beautiful environment where anyone affected by cancer can talk to professionals about any worries or concerns and obtain additional information and support to help them live with cancer.
