One said it happened 'nearly every night out'

Women and girls in Northampton have admitted they feel there is "no point" in reporting incidents of sexual harassment when on a night out in the town. Many said they felt it was "normal" to be inappropriately touched by men in clubs and pubs.

The girls also said they would not go to the police if they were inappropriately touched. When asked why, one said, "There's no point. It doesn't take you anywhere apart from a court case, which makes it even more intense, even more serious, even more traumatic." One woman, whose face was blurred, explained: "Someone physically put their hand up me. And I was wearing a skirt so that was the worst thing that has happened to me and it's happened to people I know as well."

She continued, "We think it's normal and we think 'this happens to girls every night out', and we just go 'urgh, I've just been groped today but whatever', we'll just get on with it".
